The district unit office of the Jatiya Party (JaPa) in Lalmonirhat was reduced to ashes after a group of unidentified miscreants set it on fire late on Saturday night. According to police and witnesses, a group of 15 to 20 people arrived on eight to 10 motorcycles around 11pm and broke the locks of the office, located at Alorupa Mor in the district headquarters. The arsonists reportedly looted valuables from the premises before setting it ablaze. Local residents, concerned that the fire might spread to adjacent shops, rushed to the scene and managed to bring the flames under control. Another Jatiya Party office, this time in Khulna,  vandalised Alamgir Hossain, General Secretary of the Lalmonirhat municipal unit of JaPa, said the office had already been engulfed in flames by the time party members arrived after being alerted. While the attackers have not yet been identified, the matter has been reported to senior party leaders. Tensions continued to grip the area following the incident. Nur Nabi, officer-in-charge of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station, said police responded promptly after receiving information and have launched an investigation to trace the attackers.

Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader on Tuesday expressed joy after the return of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and expressed the hope that an experienced and popular politician like her would play a significant role in resolving the country’s current crisis. “The country is moving towards a conflicting situation every day. In such a situation, an experienced and popular politician like Begum Khaleda Zia would play a significant role in resolving the current crisis by fostering tolerance, harmony and goodwill among people and building strong unity,” he said in a statement on Tuesday. Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader on Sunday expressed deep concern over the worsening law and order situation in the country and the lack of public safety. "The law and order situation in the country has deteriorated significantly. It is worsening with each passing day. The common people’s lives and property are no longer secure," he said. Quader made the remarks while addressing a meeting with the leaders of the party’s affiliated organisations at the auditorium of the Jatiya Party Chairman's office in Banani. He said that job opportunities are not being created as unemployment is rising amid the soaring prices of essential commodities. Quader also criticised the government for its failure to address the escalating violence and unrest across the country. In the name of politics, he said, there is widespread vandalism, arson and looting, with unruly mobs causing chaos. The Jatiya Party Chairman alleged that law enforcement agencies are either failing to stop these rowdy individuals, or, in many cases, are indirectly assisting them or being forced to do so. Taking advantage of the situation, Quader claimed that these unruly groups, by labelling people as members or supporters of the Awami League, are looting the assets of anyone without consequence. In light of the situation, it appears the country is now operating under mobocracy,” he said. Referring to a recent incident of looting at a house in Gulshan, GM Quader said three people were arrested, yet media reports indicated that up to 80-90 people were involved. He questioned why the remaining perpetrators were not being held accountable. GM Quader, also a former leader of the opposition in parliament, claimed that law enforcement agencies are being unfairly labelled as associates of the previous government. “This has weakened their morale. They consider performing their duties to be risky in many cases, which is why they are avoiding responsibility,” he observed. DMP deploys auxiliary police for Ramadan, Eid with arrest powers The Jatiya Party Chairman expressed concern that no specific guidelines seem to be in place to boost the morale of law enforcement officers. The country could soon become a failed state if this situation continues, he warned.

Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader on Sunday expressed his discontent with the government’s decision to impose Value Added Tax (VAT) and supplementary duties on more than a hundred products and services, describing it as a cruel move. “The fresh imposition of VAT will be a harsh decision by the government,” he said in a press statement. The Jatiya Party leader urged the government to back off from such an anti-people decision as the economic situation of the country’s people is currently dire as they are struggling to meet their expenses with their income. Business owners are also facing difficulties.” The Jatiya Party Chairman also said people’s lives have become increasingly challenging due to high inflation, soaring dollar rates, and excessive interest rates in the banking sector. In such circumstances, he said, the government’s decision to raise VAT on over a hundred products and services will make life unbearable for the common people of the country. GM Quader suggested that the government reduce unnecessary and excessive expenditures instead of increasing taxes. The Jatiya Party Chairman also urged the government to make decisions in the best interests of the common people considering the current situation. Jatiya Party Chairman Ghulam Muhammad Quader on Tuesday extended his best wishes to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia ahead of her departure to London for advanced medical treatment. GM Quader wished Khaleda Zia recovery, good health, and long life. He also expressed sympathy to BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Begum Zia’s family and her followers. Focusing on her significance in the nation’s country’s political landscape, GM Quader said, “Begum Khaleda Zia is important in the country’s politics. Her recovery is essential for the welfare of the country and its people.” The Jatiya Party chairman hoped that Begum Zia would return home fully recovered soon after her treatment by the grace of Almighty Allah, said a press release. Tarique Rahman and his family have been living in London since 2008. This will be Khaleda Zia’s second overseas medical trip, following her 2017 visit to London for treatment. This will be her first reunion with her son Tarique in seven years, and her first overseas visit since she was freed from jail. Khaleda Zia has been battling multiple health issues, including liver cirrhosis, diabetes, arthritis, and complications involving her kidneys, lungs, heart and eyes.

Jatiya Party has postponed its rally in front of its central office in Kakrail tomorrow due to a ban on gatherings imposed by the DMP in the area. The party announced the decision in a statement issued on Friday night, signed by Khandaker Delwar Jalali, JP chief’s press secretary. DMP bans rallies in Dhaka's Kakrail, surrounding areas tomorrow  In the statement, the Jatiya Party said that it will announce further programmes at a later date. “Jatiya Party made this decision respecting the law as Dhaka Metropolitan Police imposed a ban on all meetings, rallies, processions, marches, and demonstrations in Kakrail and surrounding areas on Saturday,” it said in the statement. Earlier on the day the DMP banned all types of public gathering in the capital's Kakrail and surrounding areas hours after Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader said the previously scheduled rally would go ahead as planned tomorrow, despite yesterday’s attack. “We’ll see how far they’ll go to stop us”: GM Quader On Thursday evening, unidentified miscreants set fire to the Jatiya Party (JP) central office in Dhaka's Kakrail area. According to eyewitnesses, a group of individuals—many wearing helmets and armed with sticks—entered the JP office through the main entrance. Chanting slogans, they tore down banners and festoons, vandalized furniture, and then set fire to the building's front and several rooms inside.  

Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader today said that the country is in a state of crisis, affirming that his party will continue its protests and scheduled activities despite the recent attack. Addressing a press conference at the party chairman’s office in Dhaka’s Banani, Quader responded to yesterday’s attack on the Jatiya Party central office in Kakrail. “We are ready to sacrifice, and we’ll see how far they’ll go to stop us,” Quader said. He confirmed that a previously scheduled rally would go ahead as planned tomorrow, despite the violent incident. Quader expressed frustration over what he perceived as “divisive tactics”. “Allah is protecting us; we cannot rely on anyone else,” he said. “This division is identical to what was imposed by Sheikh Hasina earlier. Now, numerous individuals face false charges, stifling any opposition,” the JP Chairman said. Referring to the student activists involved in the anti-discrimination movement, Quader remarked, “They believe only their perspective is valid, dismissing all others. They even disrupt judicial proceedings. If someone errs, there are ways to address it, but destruction is not the solution.” Quader reiterated Jatiya Party’s longstanding commitment to democracy and its principles. “We don’t stand for one-day democracy; we stand for lasting democracy. Our vision is a government ‘of the people, by the people, for the people.’ We have always supported the people and will continue to do so,” he said. He further reflected on former Jatiya Party leader Hussein Muhammad Ershad’s legacy. “The people were always with Ershad. Those who say he was removed by a popular movement are mistaken; he stepped down by choice. Since 1991, conspiracies have plagued Ershad and our party.” Commenting on their relationship with the ousted Awami League, Quader rejected the label of being an “ally”, highlighting Jatiya Party’s critiques of Awami League’s governance and corruption over the years. “People say we’re aligned with the Awami League, but we’ve always opposed their policies that go against public interest,” he argued. GM Quader was accompanied at the press conference by Jatiya Party General Secretary Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Additional Secretary General Rezaul Karim, Shamim Haider Patwary.

Expressing deep concern over the recent unrest in the hill districts, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader emphasized the need to maintain peace and stability in the region at all costs. He made these remarks during a meeting with leaders of the Jatiya Matsyajibi Party and the Jatiya Hawkers Party at his office this afternoon. "I don't want to see blood stains on the green hills," he said. "We are all Bangladeshis, and we believe in unity and harmony. We cannot allow the tourism industry and economic potential of the hilly areas to be jeopardized." He urged all parties to approach the situation with patience and tolerance and called on Pahari, Bengalis and the administration to remain vigilant. The meeting was presided over by Jatiya Matsyajibi Party President Azharul Islam Sarkar, with Jatiya Hawkers Party General Secretary Rashed Nizam serving as the moderator. From the Jatiya Party, its Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Presidium Member Mir Abdus Sabur Asud, Adv. Mo Rezaul Islam Bhuiyan, Presidium Member Alamgir Sikder Lawton, Presidium Member and Additional Secretary General Mo Zahirul Islam Zahir, Monirul Islam Milan, were also present. Many leaders and members from both the Jatiya Matsyajibi Party and the Jatiya Hawkers Party were also in attendance.

Jatiya Party (JP-Manju) Chairman and former lawmaker from Pirojpur-2 constituency Anwar Hossain Manju, who was arrested earlier today, has been released due to his sickness. He was granted bail as per the Code of Criminal Procedure 497 on ground of illness by the Officer-in-Charge of New Market police station, said a senior police official requesting anonymity. According to CrPC 497, (1) When any person accused of any non-bailable offence is arrested or detained without warrant by an officer in charge of a police-station, or appears or is brought before a Court, he may be released on bail, but he shall not be so released if there appear reasonable grounds for believing that he has been guilty of an offence punishable with death or transportation for life:Provided that the Court may direct that any person under the age of sixteen years or any woman or any sick or infirm person accused of such an offence be released on bail.(2) If it appears to such officer or Court at any stage of the investigation, inquiry or trial, as the case may be, that there are not reasonable grounds for believing that the accused has committed a non-bailable offence, but that there are sufficient grounds for further inquiry into his guilt, the accused shall, pending such inquiry, be released on bail, or, at the discretion of such officer or Court, on the execution by him of a bond without sureties for his appearance as hereinafter provided.(3) An officer or a Court releasing any person on bail under sub-section (1) or sub-section (2) shall record in writing his or its reasons for so doing. A team of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested him around 2:45 pm from Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area. He has been accused in at least five cases including a case filed in New Market police station, Rabiul Islam, Joint commissioner of DMP (DB) confirmed.

Jatiya Party Chairman Ghulam Muhammad Quader on Thursday urged the affluent people to stand beside the tens of thousands of the flood-affected people in the northeastern region of the country. In a statement  he also expressed deep concern over the endless suffering of thousands of people due to the severe floods in the northeastern region of the country. GM Quader said thousands of people have become homeless due to severe floods. All the crops in the fields, fish in ponds and farms were swept away by the flood. Millions of families have lost their businesses and domestic animals, he said. “Millions of endangered people are in endless crisis. We can't sit idle when people are in such trouble,” he said. The JP chief requested the affluent section of the society to stand by the helpless people. He requested them to reach the people with essential dry food, life saving medicines and baby food. In the statement, GM Quader directed the local units of Jatiya Party and its associate bodies to provide necessary relief assistance to the flood victims. At the same time, he also ordered his party activists to extend all-out support to the armed forces and the leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement, who are engaged in relief operations in the flood affected areas.
